Why reach new customers by phone?
Because it's part of your marketing plan. I always feel we
need a wide selection of marketing to reach out to new customers,
but the one which ticks all the boxes - efficient, quick, easy,
cheap...is the phone.
The phone is the best way of reaching out for new customers or
rekindling past customer relationships. It's quick, easy,
everyone has one, and you can make calls from virtually anywhere in
the country, or world come to think of it.
The problem?
But the big problem is, many salespeople just don't like to call
people on the phone. We call it cold calling reluctance, fear
of the call or "I'm not doing that, ever" or "I was never
taken on to phone people cold"
And try getting non salespeople to do the same or people without
sales in their title.
The reason is that it's generally done badly to us, we're fearful
of creating the same reaction with people we phone.
Cold calling, warm calling, prospecting, warming up the
customer...call it what you like, it's the same thing. You're
interrupting your customer and you better get it right.
The plain fact is that most people are fearful of it, don't
believe they can do it, and will come out with any excuse to avoid
it.
